China Supports Pakistan and Urges Calm After Pahalgam Terror Attack
China Shows Strong Support for Pakistan
After the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, China has expressed strong support for Pakistan. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar over the phone. Wang said that China is closely watching the situation and supports a fair investigation into the attack, according to a statement from China’s foreign ministry.
Rising Tensions Between India and Pakistan
Tensions between India and Pakistan have risen sharply after the attack on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed. The Resistance Front, a group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.
In response, India announced several tough actions against Pakistan, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing the only land border at Attari. Pakistan reacted by warning that stopping river waters would be seen as an “act of war” and took counter-steps like closing its airspace to Indian airlines and halting all trade with India.
China Calls for Restraint and Dialogue
Wang Yi stressed that China has always supported Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. He said China understands Pakistan’s security concerns and will continue to stand by Pakistan to protect its sovereignty and safety.
Wang also said that conflict is not in the best interest of either India or Pakistan. He urged both countries to stay calm, meet each other halfway, and work towards reducing tensions to maintain regional peace.
Pakistan’s Stand on the Situation
During the call, Dar informed Wang about Pakistan’s views on the current tensions. He said Pakistan remains firm in fighting terrorism and opposes actions that could make the situation worse. Dar added that Pakistan is committed to handling the matter responsibly and will stay in touch with China and other countries.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry issued a statement rejecting India’s “unilateral and illegal actions” and accused India of spreading “false propaganda” against Pakistan. Dar also thanked China for its continued and strong support and promised to uphold the strong friendship between the two nations.
Both countries agreed to work together to maintain peace and stability in the region and to oppose unilateral and aggressive actions by any country.
